Scene from Galaga, or scarily accurate video-game simulation of the potential power of a tractor beam?
This news item is only loosely video-game related, but who doesn't want to live in a world where tractor beams like the ones depicted in Star Wars and Galaga are a reality?
Well, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, AKA NASA, is working on making that happen. Popsci reports that NASA is currently funding the research and development of "a ray of laser light that can trap and pull objects in the opposite direction of the beam."
NASA's tractor beam is still in its infant stages, but the technology still presents some exciting possibilities. What would you suck up if you wielded the awesome power of a real tractor beam?
