Concerned about Modern Warfare 3's campaign lacking that white-hot action movie punch the series has become known for? You shouldn't be. And here's one example of how the game doesn't disappoint. [Spoilers Ahead]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is finally here, and the while the multiplayer side of things has pleased a lot people, the game's single-player campaign has received some criticism for feeling a bit like just "more of the same."

And while Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward didn't exactly redefine how they approached the campaign this time around, they've packed more than a few truly exhilarating action sequences into the experience -- including one of my favorite missions, "Turbulence."

Encountered early on during the campaign, the Turbulence mission takes place on board an airplane, where you must protect Russian president Boris Vorshevsky and his daughter.

The mission begins when Vorshevsky and his constituents are at a table discussing how world peace might be reached, when a group of armed terrorists come bursting through the door. One of the terrorists nabs the president, and you can probably guess what happens next: you move from one section of the plane to the next, gunning down the hijackers in an attempt to retrieve the president.

It's not the setting itself that's especially impressive -- in fact, there was a secret airplane level after the credits roll in the original Modern Warfare, too. It's the tremendous amount of energy the designers put into making the experience really feel like you're on board an airplane that's simultaneously being hijacked and experiencing major turbulence.

As you're exchanging fire with the hijackers, the plane violently shakes and jolts -- which results in mid-air gunfights where you're literally upside down shooting terrorists as bodies and loose objects are flying through the air. It's a scene that's reminiscent of the gravity-defying moment from Christopher Nolan's Inception.

Eventually, the chaos becomes so severe that the plane is ripped in half before your eyes. To make another movie reference: it's not unlike the scene in Fight Club where Edward Norton's character is envisioning what it would be like to experience a mid-air collision. It's an incredible sight, standing amidst the rows of plane seats, watching the fuselage being torn in two and detach itself from the rest of the plane as luggage spills out of the overhead compartments.

Even though the latest Modern Warfare's campaign doesn't really break any new ground, it doesn't need to. It's packed with moments like the Turbulence mission that are just irresistibly cool. And if Call of Duty's tradition of playing out as an interactive action flick is something that appeals to you, you likely won't be let down.
